Aside from the cask being dropped due to low sales, this place remains as it ever was. A reliable outlet for Irish and Scottish sports and a bit of atmosphere.

September 2013
An 'Irish' pub that actually is a proper Irish boozer, showing Irish sports on multiple screens and getting the general cultural vibe. The interior is larger than the exterior initially suggests. One ale - London Pride - which is usually fairly solid. Food is offered and there is a friendly welcome. Inside can be a little dark, not helped by the looming office block opposite which cuts out most of the sunshine. Always a good bet for sporting events where the kick off is pre-midday. Previously known as The Railway Tavern and Scruffy Murphys. Used to have an Inter City 125 on the pub sign!

The worst pint of London Pride I have ever had. And its the only Real Ale on.

I only came in as the Greyfriar (complete with its Cask Marque sign) was all closed up at 10pm on a Tuesday.

Dreadful place. Avoid.

The Gateway is an Irish boozer that was busy early yesterday (Thursday) evening with a Scottish crowd watching Celtic draw in the Europa League. Plasma screens can be found throughout for showing football, Gaelic football and rugby. It was whilst sitting on one of the picnic tables on the path out front that I spotted the ‘official London Irish supporter’s pub’ sticker in the window. I also noted that live music was also advertised for the upcoming Saturday night.

The bar is stocked with standard draught and the lone hand pump was badged up as Golden XPA, but this was off.

I found the service to be polite enough, but this is not a pub I will be rushing back to.

Noisy pub showing Gaelic football on the TV. Pub is reasonably spacious with more seats situated to the left of the entrance, also a pool table there. Keen on selling Jagermeister.

Gets a bit too busy on Saturday afternoons, getting a seat is a challenge.

A large open plan bar area, the solitary London Pride pump gives some hope of a decent pint among a sea of Keg fonts and I was not disappointed with the quality of the ale. A splendid interior by Reading standards with some hints of a fine old victorian pub and some ghosts of a former life as a Scruffy Murphys.
The single bar is a u-shaped area with lots of TVs showing sport to a mainly male clientele, there is also a well patronised smoking area on the front pavement area.
