Alan Winfield left this review about The Tontine

The Tontine was a three storey square shaped pub that was bare brick built.
Once inside the pub had two seperate rooms with a decent sized bar that was fairly basic and a smart and comfortable lounge.
When i first visited this pub it was a Wilsons tied house with two real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Wilsons bitter which was a decent drink, the other beer was Wilsons mild.
In later years the pub was taken over by Vaux brewery, the pub still had real ales on under this brewery.

Pub first visited 4/3/1989
