The Tudor Rose is found on the less than desirable Chestnut Street that runs alongside the A249, much like a slip road. Visiting late on a recent Tuesday evening I had to walk down the long unlit road past a few parked cars that had occupants in them, best not to think about it. This is a Shepherd Neame pub with an L-shaped front bar and additional extension on the rear that is used as a dining area. I was the only customer in the bar, but there was a young family in the restaurant, although they left halfway through my visit leaving me as the only customer. The staff were friendly enough, but were busy cleaning up. Standard keg and Birri Moretti were available, and two of the three hand pumps were in operation drawing Masterbrew and Late Red, the letter being decent. The pub’s location means that it has embraced food as its major selling point. The cheapest thing on the gastro specials board was the king prawn and smoked salmon linguine for £17.25, which is top end for the area. I thought it was pleasant enough in here and I’d be happy to drop in for lunch on pay day, but I wouldn’t go just for a drink again.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Tudor Rose

Not quite as large as initially appears from the road, even with the conservatory dining room extension at the back to supplement the main bar area along the frontage. However, with the current 'outside only' coronavirus restrictions, this was temporarily academic anyway... Instead, an awning has been erected over the rear patio and there are also a number of wooden tables in the elevated rear beer garden. As a Shepherd Neame house, I found Master Brew (£4.10, and in good shape) and Spitfire available from two of three handpumps.

A pleasant enough old pub, currently a Shephard and Neame house, just off the A2/A249 junction which has been extended witha conservatory to provide a large dining area while keeping its original front bar. The combination of these two areas doesn't sit easily on the eye but seems to work, although the pub feel has disappeared. The meals are a little pretentious and the restaurant business chaotic, but the staff are pleasant enough and the clientele is easy-going. I had a pint of Spitfire which was well kept and in very good condition. Worth stopping off for a meal if you aren't in a hurry and have cash to spare, and worth popping in for a pint. I would include on a crawl in combination with some of the nearby pubs.
