Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Brown Jug

With the building having a suburban, this pub looks slightly out of place at the end of a small terrace of cottages out in the countryside. However, from what I was able to see when signing in under the coronavirus restrictions, the traditional interior is much more what I was expecting. Having taken a seat in the extended, if basic, rear beer garden, I was offered a choice of two Harvey's beers on handpump: Sussex Best and the seasonal Olympia (£3.80).

Now in private hands, this is a very pleasant pub to call into. Very friendly and welcoming staff, typically four or five ales available, kept in good nick. Good solid food, not too pricey ... but recent addition on an Italian chef has changed the emphasis a little. This is an 'improvement' if you like Italian food ... not such an 'improvement' if you prefer British dishes - up to you really. But, as I already said, a destination well worth the trip....

The Brown Jug has been a Freehouse for over 2 years now and the new owners have redecorated, changed the beers, introduced homecooked food and improved the beers. They regularly stock beers from Harvey's, Greene King, Mad Cat and Tonbridge Brewery. The pub is both dog and child friendly and they are now open all day from 12. Sunday Lunches are very popular so I suggest you get there early!

Just outside the village, The Brown Jug is a small corner pub which was once very popular with the local horsey set. Now it's on the endangered list - the Brewery (Shephard and Neame) is looking to sell the property, although there is, I believe, a covenant on it which prohibits change of use. The premises are run down and it's not particularly busy these days. There was a delicious smell of roast dinner coming from the pub, but it turned out to be the landlord's dinner - the pub doesn't sell food anymore. There was only one ale on - Masterbrew - which was not in great shape but was still just about drinkable. It's worth dropping in for a quick pint when in the area, but it may not be around for much longer.
