A 17th Century Shepherd and Neame house currently undergoing renovation, but still serving Masterbrew and Kent's Best, both much appreciated. Allegedly haunted, if you believe that sort of thing. It's a high street boozer consisting of a L-shaped bar with a dartboard at one end, a gaming machine and some excessive loudspeakers. There is a pleasant garden at the rear, and the pub is dog friendly. Renovations provided some comedy moments, such as not being able to get through the front door, and having to use the ladies' toilet or 'loo' as the Y-chromosome-deficient call it – I now know from the posters therein that I am overdue a smear test, but I don't know what to do about it. The reception from the locals was friendly, the staff were pleasant and the beer was well kept. I am looking forward to coming back once the work is complete.

The Old House at Home is a small L shaped Shepherd Neame pub with a surprisingly large decked and grass covered beer garden at the rear. The drinks selection isn’t the most exciting as there is a limited standard draught selection alongside Oranjeboom and the two hand pumps were both badged up as Kent’s Best. To the left of the bar are a dartboard and a jukebox that was turned off in favour of a local radio station complete with adverts. I’m not sure why this was airing as there was plenty of banter at the bar from the handful of friendly locals in attendance. The plasma screen was switched off and I didn’t spot any signs of Sky sports. To the left of the entrance by the front windows are a couple of speakers so I imagine that there is some sort of entertainment at the weekends.

I found the red carpet, columns and wainscoting a little hard on the eyes and although the locals were an amiable bunch I’ll not be rushing back here.
