This pub seems to have had a major smartening-up exercise since my previous visits in the distant past, and is as described by Just a quick pint below. We sat in the left hand side extension with our dogs, and enjoyed some classic fish'n'chips, together with a reasonable pint of Romney Marsh B17 (American Pale Ale)our visit was towards the tail end of lunchtime:service was efficient and friendly.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Pilot Inn
Popular food-led pub on the beach near Dungeness which really only needs one item on the menu: fish and chips. The original building has an extensive single-storey extension to leave a variety of seating / dining areas facing the sea. Light-wood furniture and nautically themed decoration throughout. A patio terrace can also be found to one side, together with a few more wooden benches out on the shingle. With three of the four handpumps in use (each with a different style of handmade handle), I found Doom Bar plus a couple of 'house' beers from the Romney Marsh Brewery: the 4.8% Pilot Ale (£4.60p) and 5.0% B17.

Although listed as being in Lydd, this pub is actually on the beach at Dungeness - a wild and usually windswept hamlet which is the only part of the UK with a 'desert' meteorological rating! The building is in keeping with the area and the premises are not luxurious, but what you do get is a decent pint of ale and fish and chips to die for!

The Pilot is a 60s seaside style building housing what appears to be a mixture of pub and cafe. Its forte is fish and chips, which it does very well - the portions are large and the fish tasty. However, for the second time in a year I found that the beer is below par, and the barstaff are not friendly - conversation was met with apathy bordering on surliness. The Adnams (the only choice) remains dull and uninspiring. Worth coming into for lunch or a fish n chip supper but not for its beer.
