Despite addition of the lovely I Love Paella franchise in the kitchen, the ale in here is still dire - two of my three went back last visit.

Perennially underachieving historic town centre boozer has recently had quite a makeover and is definitely improving. Three ales in middling condition, though be careful of their pricing policy which means you pay a premium for the pleasure of a half - £1.80 as opposed to £3.30 for a full pint...you do the maths.

Decent pub without being remarkable, geared up as a rugby pub. Had a very well kept pint of Caledonian Dutchman on a recent visit.Certainly worth a pint if on a crawl in the locality .

Recently had a pint of Ringwood beer at this pub. The place itself was full of TV screens showing sport and there was plenty of flags to do with the Rugby World Cup. So I think of this as a Sports pub, the ale is decent here.

Good corner location not far from Reading's central area. Attractive old wooden interior around the bar area but a little drab in other parts of the single U shaped room. Pool table to one side, to the other there is seating on distressed leather covered benches and a screen for Sky Sports, beyond that a dining area. Active, friendly bar staff, but it was very quiet when I was there in the early evening. Two handpulls, one not in use, the other badged as Bombardier but actually serving London Pride, which was flat and uninteresting but drinkable. Smiths Smooth, Fosters, 1664, Guinness and Sagres keg beers plus Strongbow and Bulmers keg ciders.

Bit of a strange pub that has probably seen better years. Efficient and friendly staff and the bottled Black Sheep was good value at £2.15.
