The Clarence looked closed from the outside due to the sparsely decorated front bar area being devoid of customers and staff. Congregated in the back bar were a handful of customers, a couple of whom were inebriated during my Tuesday evening visit. The dartboard and pool table were unused and the background music was slow and depressing. Live music was advertised for the upcoming Saturday night.
This is a deceptively large venue, but I found the décor and atmosphere to be depressing, and some of the locals to be intimidating. The friendly service is why this place has been rated at two rather than one.

This uses to be my local as a teen back in 1978, it was really nice and friendly use to have a piano and all old music was played on it, people use to gather round and have a good sing along, not been back for some years now since i moved away but left a lasting memory for me ....... Iv been trying to find some old pics on it as it was back then can anyone help please!!! Had lots of fun in this pub :~).
