Steve C left this review about Royal Standard

The Royal Standard is a backstreet local’s boozer with a wedge shaped front area that is served by the bar and a thin raised seating area that runs up the right hand side of the bar. There are two dartboards and a pool table, which is pretty good going as this isn’t the biggest pub. There was some low background music playing off the jukebox during my Monday lunchtime visit and I didn’t notice any televisions, although a projector screen was rolled up on the wall.
There were a couple of regulars at the bar who seemed harmless enough and I found the landlady to be very polite.
An open mic night was advertised for the upcoming Thursday evening, but I’m not sure if this is a regular weekly event. Karaoke is hosted here from 18:00 until 21:00 every Sunday and there is a weekly meat raffle, but I didn’t catch the day it is held.
Children under twelve are only permitted if they remain seated in the raised seating area and are off the premises by 19:00.

I thought that this was a friendly pub that I would have no problem returning to.
