Seems to have through a few licensees. Now has two or three ales on via Greene King. More foody now and less enticing that it was a few years back.

An interesting, low-beamed pub that had a lived-in feel until a recent refurb. Usually two or three Greene King ales on the go. There's a lovely riverside beer garden at the rear and a real fire in the front bar. Probably Pangbourne's best pub.

A lovely old building, well decorated externally in best Farrow and Ball tones. You enter through a low doorway ,to the left are two dining areas with tables set, while the tap room is to the right, with many low beams and a good mix of wooden furniture , a convivial atmosphere and partially flag stoned floor. The highlight is a charming beer garden, with some jumberellas and a covered terrace along the banks of the River Pang,a small but fast flowing tributary to the nearby Thames.
It's a GK tied house with 3 handpumps serving on my trip GK IPA,Old Speckled Hen and a decent Skinners Betty Stogs as the guest ale.
Quite a genuine pub and not dominated by food on my Saturday afternoon visit, just a shame Greene King brew such bland beer, you are dependent on pot luck with the guest if you are looking for a decent pint of real ale.

This has that proper old pub feel straightaway on entering, the log fire burning with the welcoming smell of wood smoke, the low beamed ceiling and the gaggle of locals chatting away in the corner. The floor on entering is boarded but steps down slightly to a stone flagged area. Seating is traditional, with rectangular wooden tables and the round three legged Britannia type. Seating is a mixture of standard backed chairs, small stools and upholstered benches. Wood panelled walls with some exposed brickwork.
Two interconnected side rooms feel a bit more modern, the furthermost is set up as a formal dining area.
An outdoor terrace to the rear backs onto the River Pang. There is a large shed out here with tables and seating and the rugby commentary playing even if there is no TV here or inside!
The beer choice was restricted to GK products, IPA, Westgate Hare Raiser and Ruddles Best Bitter. A number of beer mats on a beam would suggest a guest ale policy but not yesterday it seems. I asked for some cashew nuts which were served in a little white bowl.
Quiz night advertised on a Thursday.
