Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about East Cliff Tavern

Classic house-like side-street pub, and can easily appear to be closed. Indeed, had I not seen another customer leaving as I approached then I might have assumed exactly that. However, open the 'upper' bar was open, albeit in almost total darkness to save some daytime electricity, although the 'lower' one is not currently in regular use. As basic as things get, with just 1/3rd-height wood panelling and a dartboard in addition to three small round tables and a few barstools by the counter. With only one of the handpumps in use, my expectations weren't that high, but the Tropic from Kent Brewery (£3.90) was a treat.

One of Kent's hidden gems, the East Cliff Tavern is a time warp of a pub a few minutes' walk away from the town centre in a terrace just off the main coast road. Two bars which haven't been decorated in many decades, hung with pictures of old Folkestone, house comfortably shabby furniture. The pub has a very homely feel to it and visitors (you feel like that rather than like a customer) are welcomed, talked to and made to feel very much at home. Home-cooked food is sometimes available, especially Sunday lunchtimes. Otherwise there is a glass counter with chocolate and pain-killers - quaint. Two ales on, I had a pint of Hopdaemon which was excellent. Well worth seeking out for its beer quality alone or for the experience of a traditional Kentish greeting, but don't expect any frills.

I wholeheartedly recommend this little pub; this miniature beacon of joy on Folkestone's East Side. The pure joy of honestly priced, local real ales, bought by the cask and sold until they're gone, means every trip is a different taste sensation: some fantastic beers from Hopdaemon, Gadds, Whitstable Brewery, alongside other Kent and Sussex breweries I've forgotten (my apologies). I could probably remember them better if it wasn't for the Biddendens - a no nonsense Kentish cider at 8% - this pub is one of two in Folkestone that sell it and the other is full of would-be trendies who have no right drinking this apple-based nectar. Anyway, I digress. The atmosphere is fantasic: local characters, old aged and yet not weary of the world, warmly re-tell their life stories night after night - there's always a story, a laugh and a joke to be had at the East Cliff Tavern. The darts team is phenomenal. The entire pub is probably smaller than your front room and all the better for it. Ten out of ten.

The place to be at the weekend and all day everyday in the summer. Great local ale's, common beers and not to forget thee BIDDENDENS cider, one of only two pubs in Folkestone that sell it. Excellent place 10 out of 10. 5star. The place to be for a jolly kness up.

Absolutely wonderful place. From the outside you'd be forgiven for thinking it's someone's house, and inside the decor is a bit "rough and ready", but there is a selection of ales and really friendly staff and locals.

You *won't* find it by accident - it is very out of the way. So if you're in Folkestone, make a point of finding the place. You won't be disappointed
