Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about King & Queen

Former Shepherd Neame pub in an old building that has been partly opened-out inside but stripped of most of its character unfortunately. Limited amount of basic furniture in three of the four small seating areas (one with a dartboard) around the bar, with smarter lounge tables and chairs in the other quarter. The real ale has long gone too, unfortunately, and not even a keg bitter of any sort, so went for the Goose Island Session IPA (overpriced at £4.95) in preference to one of the bottled offerings. NB - The interior was full with 'Lest we forget' banners, so it was quite poignant to be there on Remembrance Sunday with some respectful regulars watching the ceremony from Whitehall on the various TVs instead of the usual sport.

Walked in - checked out the wares. No real ale, so thought I would check out the others in town.

No real ale here now unfortunately despite the assertions from the presumed landlady that the keg Harvey's beer was real through a keg pump. She said they used to have a couple on stillage behind the bar, backed up by an old Whatpub review, but there was no demand. Well the other two pubs in this small town dispense the real stuff and seem to be thriving.Read into that as you will. The other two had customers eating and drinking, sadly there was nobody in the King And Queen at all. Possibly this is the local young persons' late night venue, the cream stools at high tables suggest so. Externally the Shepherd Neame sign remains as does the declaration that this is a free house.

I think the same 3 regulars as my only prev visit were sat obscuring the beer pumps again but they aint hostile and this Sheps pub had Spitfire, Materbrew, & Bishops Finger. Evidently popular locally and for food too, but am I alone in thinking that the phrase (for my Spitfire) "That's £2.90" is missing a word? I noted the same brevity (rudeness) with another customer, maybe he was an outsider too.
