So I did return here after an evening walk. Looked pretty much as I remembered. Three on, 2x Sharps and West Berkshire Beehive. I went for the Sharps I hadn’t heard of – was a little past its best but drinkable enough. Apparently called the Butts due to the archery fields that used be located opposite in ye olde days.

Desmond decided to take an unannounced detour to take in the glowing nuclear vibe of Aldermaston. Glad he did. We spotted this tidy-looking place with its 3D beer barrel signage and decided to drop in. Bar to the right as you enter with a number of drinking areas either side, with a well-inhabited small lounge area (squashy sofas and flock wallpaper) tucked off to left. Quite nicely kitted out inside, modern but tasteful. Fireplace appeared to be unused for its stated function which was a shame (gas effect fires elsewhere). TV in the main bar area showing Six Nations rugby. Three ales, Adnams Ghost Ship, West Berks GOB and Doom Bar. A friendly barman served up a superb half of the Ghost Ship. A few people in on what was a quiet Saturday afternoon elsewhere, generating a decent locals atmosphere. Pretty solid, I’d have no problem returning here. Rated 7
