Recently reopened under new management, The Portland Vase is a fairly ordinary back street boozer in what was once thought to be a shop on the end of a Victorian terrace. It's newly decorated and still undergoing renovation so the overwhelming smell is of new paint. It consists of a single large bar with a shabby carpet, tv screen, a pool table and dartboard. There is an open fire and various cheap fittings which don't quite work as a theme and just look untidy. All the seats are in very poor condition but will presumably be changed as work progresses. The landlady and other customers were very welcoming, but the complete absence of real ale (or indeed any other draft beer on this occasion) make it difficult to justify a visit.
