Roger Button left this review about The Woodman

Situated just out of the town centre on the main road towards Crayford, the Woodman was converted from a shop to a pub in the 1860’s by a local policeman.

The carpeted interior has low ceilings but on the whole is quite plain and featureless. To the right of the central bar is a darts area and at the rear to the left of the bar, a pool table. It is very much a local’s pub as evidenced by the numerous photo displays of the regulars in party mode. There are a couple of TV’s and some quite intrusive music which you can escape from in the small patio garden if the weather allows.

One of 2 Brakspear pubs in town (the Jolly Millers being the other), the Woodman only offered a single ale (Oxford Gold) on my visit with the regular suspect kegs and lagers on draught.

The pub doesn’t feature highly on my list of return visits but there is one issue for which I will forever hold a grudge. In the mid 80’s the landlord at the time was one of the first to introduce Karaoke. Thanks for that!

Great family run local. Every one is made to feel welcome, relaxed atmosphere, good food and great choice of beers.
Good entertainment and friendly staff and customers.
