Very much a locals' pub, 'modernised' by removing the carpet to reveal bare boards and splashing a bit of grey paint about but leaving an unfinished feel. Prominently placed pool, darts and sports TV screens demonstrate its selling point. Outside there is a small roadside terrace. The solitary handpump had something from Yates badged but was sadly off, leaving the usual keg stuff.

The Isle of Wight that doesn’t appear in the tourist information brochure. This is a basic flea pit of a locals pub - open plan, knocked around, scruffy and no real features beyond pool, pinball and incredibly pissed locals. These ranged from Angry Young Man on a Knife Edge, Yellow Mac and Tiny Shorts Man, Toothless Grinning Man and Dancing to the Jukebox Man. Thought I might have to duck and weave my way out of the situation but the friendly (but clearly fierce when it suited her) barmaid at least had control of the pub. Though I did wonder why some of the more obviously sloshed characters were still getting served. One ale on, a surprisingly decent Yates Undercliff. Fair to say we didn’t hang around and made good our escape. One of the most memorable pubs on our holiday but not necessarily for the right reasons.
