Backstreet local with much gaming which is surprisingly large inside. The one large traditionally-furnished room extends round the bar, featuring two dartboards, a pool table, bar billiards and, unless I am very much mistaken, a space for shove ha'penny. As well as several sports TVs, obviously. A lot of Brewers' Tudor beaming gives a rather dark feel to the interior, and the pine panelling is a bit dated, but it is lively and friendly enough. Outdoor drinking is provided for by some tables on the front terrace. Alewise it featured Goddard's Ale of Wight and Fuggle-de-dum along with Directors and that sampled was in good nick. Worth the short dive off the seafront.

Backstreet community freehouse away from the main drag. J shaped late 60s/70s style interior and a lot larger than it looks from the street - pub carpet, painted embossed wallpaper, light brown tongue and groove wood cladding, fake thin ceiling beams, mini wall lampshades, mounted plates, diamond leaded double glazed windows. Two dart boards either end of pub plus a pool table. Function room to the rear and a basic garden area. We were fortunate enough to visit on the Sunday evening live music session, featuring a pretty talented pair of musicians doing acoustic covers. Incredibly busy and deservedly so. Friendly service from behind the bar, think the barmaid liked the cut of my jib (or my Prolapse t-shirt). Three ales on – Courage Directors, Goddards Fuggle and Ale of Wight. Both the Goddards beers were in super condition. We ended up staying a lot longer than originally intended and it was a pretty memorable evening. A good egg, this one. 8.5

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Simeon Arms

Attractive back-street local, with the entrance located up a few steps between the two windowed bays. Features a staple-shaped interior, with the dartboard at one end and the pool table at the other. Traditional furniture / decor throughout. Also has the Huntsman's Bar (with a stage) at the back for functions and events, a small terrace to the front. Courage Directors and two local beers from Goddard's - Ale of Wight and Fuggle (£3.40) - from the three handpumps. With its community feel and friendly welcome, this one is worth seeking out if in the area.
