A true gastro pub with very high quality food which has featured in The Good Food Guide. However the pub still retains the atmosphere of an upmarket village inn rather than a restaurant.Through the front door ,the bar is to the right with bar stools infront and three handpumps serving Adnams Bitter and Broadside and there is usually a Red Squirrel ale available, the seasonal Munich Ale on my visit. There are a few small tables near the bar not set for diners and so it is quite possible to drink here,or in the extensive garden without eating. However the food is the draw and the rest of the interior is for diners and to one side at the rear is a more formal dining room which can be hired for special events. The decor is pleasing throughout with a good mixture of traditional tables and upright chairs and the table settings are minimalistic rather than silver service.Luchtime is great value with a set menu of 2 courses for £12,3 for £16 and there is a more extensive a la carte. As you would expect ale quality is also very high and there are regular foodie events, check the website.Great place for a genteel drink or meal,I would thoroughly recommend a visit .

Great place to eat that's not far from Stevenage, Hitchin or St Albans. Went their for Sunday lunch and had a very godd meal. I believe the chef is award winning which seems to pretty much guarantee a decent bit of food. Nice to see the drinks on sale where not rubbish either, some local drinks on tap (bar maid says that the chef / owner selects the beers). Thoroughly recommend it, especially if you get the seats in front of the open fire!
