Clearly an old building ,since extended and today an honest boozer for the working man.It stands at the end of town next to a small industrial estate ,which is the source of much custom. Two door to two seperate sections, the higher full of lager fonts and dedicated to Spurs, the lower section more cosy and full of Arsenal ephemera. There are Sky Sports flatscreens in both sections, and off the Spurs end is a room with a pool table. It's all neat and tidy with some traditional furniture in the higher bit, more high tables and comfy chairs in the lower where roof beams create some interest.Lots of bar stools around both serveries and well used. There is a darts board in the lower bit and a small open kitchen serving stone baked pizze, median price £14.
The real ale handpumps are in the Arsenal,a reversed Landlord clip leaving just London Pride,so I followed the regulars and had a Morreti.
The big advantage this pub has is that it opens at noon everyday, smart move by the guv'nor and there was a decent attendance on a blustery Monday lunchtime.
Had there been more interesting real ale ,the pub would have scored higher.I enjoyed my stay.

Not a lot seems to have changed in the seven years since Alan visited.
Although now internally the two rooms are connected , it still very much has the feel of a two room pub and the outside front still has separate door marked public and saloon. Both sections have large screens for the sport and the right hand public set up has dart board and pub games and then there is a separate space at the back with a pool table..
There are a few bench seats to the front but a nicer outside sitting area round the back by the car park , which catches the afternoon sun.
The serving bar area in each section has the same range of drinks available and there are two hand pumps in each area. But these were both dispensing GK IPA and Hobgoblin.
Decent enough first pub you come to if you have walked the river from Stansted Abbotts. But if you do intend to go further into Ware before returning , then I would suggest there are probably better offerings in town.

The Angel is just along the road from the Victoria.
This is a decent looking pub and there were two rooms inside i went in a smartish lounge and this was quite comfortable, there were two real ales on the bar i had a drink of Bombadier and this was a decent drink the other beer was Greene King IPA.
