Will Larter left this review about The Garibaldi

One of many decent back street pubs in this area of town, the Garibaldi is a smallish building that manages to crowd a lot of space, Tardis-like, within. The old front door is disused, the entrance now being to one side, near the beer garden. There's an island bar with four hand pumps at the front and three more to the rear. These serve mostly Fullers beers: ESB, London Pride and Front Row, plus Gales HSB and Seafarer, the guests being Brains Bread of Heaven and Castle Rock Harvest Pale. I had the Front Row, which was well kept and carefully poured by the attentive landlord. It was fairly quiet at the time of my visit, with Aretha Franklin disguising the lack of conversational hum, though I can imagine it would quickly become crowded, being so small. Although the choice of beers is nothing to write home about, the quality is such that this pub would definitely be on my list for a revisit.

The Garibaldi is a Fullers pub with an island bar in the centre that makes it a bit of a squeeze to get around the pub when it is busy, as it was during my recent Saturday evening visit. Thankfully there are more seating areas that branch off from the main bar area and one of these houses a dartboard. The bar is stocked with standard draught products alongside numerous hand pumps that were drawing Fullers ales. I didn’t notice any TVs or see any advertisements for Sky Sports, but there was some live music in the form of a soloist guitar player who was very good.

This is a decent backstreet local situated in amongst some very good pubs. I can see that a return visit is on the cards in the near future.

This is a true locals pub i he backstreets of Saint Albans. A multi roomed pub now linked by openinigs through the walls an a centrally located bar. Bar staff are very convivial and were talking to all that came through the door. Although there are plenty of other very good pubs with a good range of ales, this would probably be my local if I lived in the town. Normal Fullers range of ales on and the ones we tried were very well kept. Wish I had noted the discount to CAMRA members!

Clive Thompson left this review about The Garibaldi

One of Fullers’ back street pubs in a quiet part of St Albans off Holywell Hill. Quite handily it is located right outside the back entrance to the garden of the White Lion. Recently taken over and now family run and they are offering a 20p a pint discount with a CAMRA card.
