A lovely position on the Common and looking across to the cricket pitch ,there is a lot of outside seating to one side of the pub which would be ideal in fine weather. The pub itself is quite small with a gastro makeover in the front room ,fitted seating around the walls and small stools and semi circular low backed chairs in brown velour and some leather upholstery.Light musak was audible and there is a small flat screen to the side of the bar sensibly switched off.A gas affect fake woodburner is more evidence of a makeover which has produced a slightly sterile interior. The bar contains 5 handpumped ales with GK IPA and Bury St Edmunds brewed Sundance complemented by 3 guests in Spitfire,Oldershaw Cascade and Tring Squadron Scramble .Through the corridor and down a step is a modern restaurant area laid for diners. The pub is carpeted throughout and the overriding impression was that this pub fits in well with the upmarket surroundings and this is further evident in the food pricing with mains generally in the £12-£15 range.Sandwiches with crisps were tasty but you wont get change from a fiver .However the bar service was friendly and efficient.
The pub features in the 2012 GBG,but I thought the range on my visit was a little uninspired. It didn't seem the place for a heavy session but may appeal more to fans of gastro pubs.

The Pub is situated at the edge of the Village Green, across the road from the Cricket Pitch. A very nice setting, especially in the summer. Maldon Gold was one of the beers on the pumps. Kept and served well, and at the right temperature. The food was freshly cooked and not bad at all. Had to wait quite some time though, while it was cooked, which meant I was forced into having another pint - Very sad, but there you go.
Will we go back? Oh Yes.

Nice pub in the middle of Redbourn’s Commons opposite the cricket ground as the name suggests. Looks to once have been two separate buildings. Advertises itself as a Free House but just Greene King beers available which were in reasonable condition. The back bar houses a nice dining room. The pub has a community feel with many local clubs using it as their base.
