Bucking Fastard left this review about White Horse Inn

Reopened after a lengthy closure, and totally changed.Gone is the hideous 60's hotel block attaching and behind, torn down to make way for some upmarket housing in this picture postcard hamlet. There has been an expensive refurb on the pub building which dates from 1557,formerly a coaching inn.The front door leads to the bar and drinking area. The underlit serving counter,Farrow & Ball wall coverings, spotlights and a mixture of seating from leather armchairs to wooden seating booths is all very upmarket and gives discrete areas in which to sup including a raised lounge to the right. There is a wood burner near the front door and original timbers are still exposed although there are also some modern wooden beams.Beyond the bar to the left is a large restaurant with table service and a seperate function room. The large bi fold doors give access to a paved beer terrace, although drinkers can't gain access through the dining room.
Letting rooms are still advertised, although this must be a much smaller operation than before, and the pub is open all day for breakfast, morning coffees right through to normal pub hours.
The light muzak was bearable, and the three handpumps were drawing St Austell Proper Job,Tring Drop Bar and Adnams Ghostship (good nick ,£3.50).There are 8 wall mounted taps but only offering mainstream kegs.
If the ale quality from respected brewers can be maintained,I can see this pub pushing towards a GBG listing.I didn't eat on this occassion but the menu looked interesting from a shortish list and reasonably priced mains £10-16 with light bite options.
Well worth a visit,if you like upmarket refurbs and decent ale.
