This is a James H Porter pub which I’ve read is Scottish and Newcastle’s community (estate) pub branch. It is a large L-shaped pub with a pool table, dartboard and pinball machine at one end and a quieter area where the bar wraps around at the other and I imagine this doubles up as a function room as there are some large doors that can be pulled across. There are TV screens throughout the pub and there is a sign up stating that ‘if it’s on, it’s on here’ in regards to football and sport in general. None of these screens were on during my Wednesday afternoon visit, but there was some old 80s chart music playing. There are some picnic tables that line the front by the entrance and there is also a separate fenced off grassed area that has some more picnic tables and a climbing frame with slide etc for the kids.

I didn’t spot any real ale but I did have a nice pint of Guinness and I found it to be very comfortable in here. However, it was very quiet so I didn’t get to see what the atmosphere is like when the locals are in attendance. This pub is certainly not worth going out of the way for, but I have been in worse.
