Same old. Pub itself felt a bit like it was passing time. Just one ale on, Hardy and Hanson's Bitter, which was actually in very decent shape and was the best of the day in Hungerford. I’m no fan of GK beer but it does seem to be consistent in here. 5.5

Brief revisit to catch half of the football. Just H&H Bitter on, in decent shape at least. Football was being shown on three screens but was almost impossible to watch because of the occupied pool table. Disappointing. Rated 5

A Greene King pub. Modernised inside but the flagstone floor, picked ‘Sun’ in the brickwork above the fire and sash windows give it a little character. Four GK ales on, with the Hardy & Hansons being a little different to the usual; it tasted good and was a cheap (for Hungerford!) £1.55 a half. The woman behind the bar could have been a bit more welcoming, “today’s stranger could be tomorrow’s regular” and all that. Piped music ranged from Simple Minds to Betty Boo. The pub seems to make its money on mid-range grub, the place smelt heavily of cooking oil and other food scents. Basic patio at the rear where I met the pub dog (Duke). Clean and tidy, maybe worth a look if you’re having an extended day in the town. Rated 6
