Once through the doors we entered a sort of coffee shop area. The next room from this was the bar, which displayed two Wye Valley beers. The front room was a long narrow room, which was set out for dining only. The beer is well kept here and the bar area with its low beam ceiling, does make it worthy of a visit.

Will Larter left this review about The Grapes

After a slightly disappointing experience at the Lichfield Vaults, I decided to give the Grapes a try. At first, looking from East Street, it has the slightly off-putting aspect of a posh restaurant, but down the side street there's a more traditional pub façade and entrance. Inside there are some genuine old and low beams, plus a bar that features five hand pumps. Unfortunately these are a hangover from the days before the emphasis changed to food, and now they only ever have two or at most three beers on, and they no longer have real ciders, only keg. The beers were from Wye Valley Brewery, and the half of their bitter that I had here was in better condition than at the much vaunted Barrels.

This pub is now open after the refurbishment. The new owners have advertised it as being locally focused both on drinks and food. I visited , without my reading glasses, and mistakenly ordered a pint of perry. The lady behind the bar kindly offered to replace it.Well worth a visit.

Just been purchased by a new pub company that plan to close it in the new year (2011) and refurbish it. They will introduce a good food offering and completly change the decor, drinks on offer, operation style and ambience. Something to look forward to.....

Been drinking here for nearly 16 years. Very good pub although like many others is quieter than it once was. There were other things related to the banning of the lesbians and it wasn't a life ban , one still goes and drinks in there. Very basic rooftop terrace for smokers , pool table , darts team and friendly staff
