A big independent pub with lots of events for the regulars, ranging from the usual quizzes and live music through to cribbage and even magic nights. Inside has been done up in a smart dining room style, with a high-tabled drinking area down one end. A large terrace at the rear included a tent-like structure, while there are also tables on the green over the road. Service and food were excellent, as were the beers: regulars are Rebellion IPA and Doom Bar with a changing guest which on this occasion was Timmy Taylors Golden Best. Pleasant.

Once headquarters for the Monster Raving Loony Party a few years ago ,it has now had makeover a couple of years ago, and is now a little smarter and upmarket than it was before. Although modernised it is still reasonably pub like but with equal emphasis on food.a single opened out long room, wooden floored with standard tables and chairs more for eating purposes,a central bar area and at the other end a pool table dartboard and large TV screen for sport. On the bar are three pumps with one unclipped on a Sunday lunchtime, the two on were Caledonian Golden XPA and Caledonian Dog & Partridge , not very exciting but the XPA at £3.75 was in decent condition and not too bad,a mix of usual keg stuff was on offer plus a couple of slightly more premium lagers. The food here is reputed to be up to a very good standard but I've not tried it. The pubs ok but I wouldn't go out of my way.
