Quite a nice pub,a single walk round room with a central island bar, various upholstered seating all around, unfortunately this is a Greene King pub and the beers were not overly exciting, three beers were available from the four handpumps, Morland Original,London Glory and St Edmond's.
I liked the pub, not the beer.

Appears to have changed style again having been well tarted up and selling Greene King's delicious ales, so I didn't bother staying for a drink.

Have to say as a pub, it wasn’t my cup of tea, but then I prefer my pub interiors to be traditional, and especially after seeing the very nice etched glass Victorian window exterior the inside came as a bit of a surprise.
The Green Man is one of the four venues to be Jazzed up by local entrepreneur and interior decorator owner Jayne Gillin and I can’t say what’s been done here isn’t smart and funky. And as I understand it was formerly a tired back street drinker’s local that was in danger of closing, so rather this than a shut pub.
However I will be leaving this one to those of you that like stripy cloth covered seats, drip sparkly chandeliers and cartoon lampshades, and probably have more focus on the impressive wine list than the Ale pumps.
It is also a fairly trendy restaurant in the dining room upstairs that scores fairly highly on Trip Advisor, but cannot comment on that as we were only here for a pint. And in that respect for the record there are four ale pumps on the bar with one off and two others dispensing GK ales in the shape of Morlands Original and St Edmunds Ale. The fourth had a very average Black sheep and I’m sure I got charged £3.80 for a pint of it, which was another reason we didn’t return here and wont be next time were in Winchester.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Green Man

Difficult to tell what sort of pub lies within the austere brick and flint exterior, but it was actually much more upmarket than I expected (with a chalk board noting that Dom Pérignon champagne was available at £99.99...). Tastefully retro decor, with a mixture of furniture including some side booths. However, watch the step going to the toilets - very dark! Some Greene King signage is visible, but whether they still own it is not clear. Exmoor Gold and Morland Original (£3.40, in so-so condition) available from the four handpumps. Overall, a bit of a mixed bag. (NB - Review dates from August 2012.)

Brick and flint built pub with basic Victorian type décor although I remember it a good few years ago as modernish with carpet going halfway up the bar counter. The present style is probably described as something like “retro shabby chic”, it does have some good original etched windows though. The outside says Greene King but there is not a sign of their products inside, instead there are four hand pumps, only one in use selling Bowman's “A Swift One” and on my visit two casks on the bar. Four discreetly placed keg fonts serving Carlsberg, Heineken, Guinness and Stowford Press cider, other ciders were also listed on a blackboard. I had Keltic Even Keel straight from the cask and although it was fitted with a cooling jacket the beer was warmish, flat and lacking any condition. An early Tuesday evening visit but it still seemed a bit cruel to leave the barman all on his own as I was the only punter. Free Wi-Fi available.

Seems like the last review is out of date...... Gone are the pool table, tellys and juke box and in there place are.....nothing. It's now a brilliant boozer, 4 real ales, 2 from the cask on the ba (cooled!!!) 2 ciders on pump and a great old fashiond victorian feel!!!! Must be seen to be believed!!!

I have visited this pub a couple of times since the new owners took over and the difference is impressive. They have obviously noticed how filty the place was and decided to do something about it.
Great polished floors, new pool table, darts, skittles and even clean beer lines.
The landlords make you feel welcome as soon as you walk in the door, unlike other pubs and the pub feels more like home than a typical city/town centre pub.
Go along, pay a visit, you may be suprised!

The joint worst pub on my crawl (along with the Rising Sun), both Greene King ales here were in appalling condition. No atmosphere, save for a couple of atrocious fishwives at the bar. A shame because I quite liked the interior. The working dumb waiter was an interesting touch, as was the slightly unfathomable choice of two different types of hand wash available in the gentleman's convenience.

Must do better.
