A yomp up through the estate brings you to this Wadworth pub which is a functional interwar brick building, made attractive by the considerable exterior flora. A note at the door advises that clean attire is essential which hints at the upmarket approach inside (and is a deterrence for some of the nearby residents as well, I imagine). There's been a lot of money thrown at this and in fairness it has been well spent. There is a low-lit atmospheric feel that works quite well alongside the deep red walls, coal fire and decor that stays just on the right side of chintz (mounted plates, varnished pew seating, gold framed prints). Rear function room and garden, as well as spotless bogs. A large chunk of the place is given over to dining and just popping in for a drink may prove tricky at busy times I suspect. Three ales on, all Waddies; 6X, IPA and Horizon, the latter of which was in good form though steep at £4.20. I kind of liked it here as a stop, actually. Apparently there’s an Edward VIII post box outside too. 6.5

I visited this pub yesterday for a business lunch with colleagues and customers. At lunch time the place is most definatly a restraunt over a pub. Good selection of Wadworths on the bar but unable to sample as a driver. The food menu was uncomplicated pub grub, it arrived quickly, hot and with no fuss. Good attention by the waiting staff and the landlord. Nice open log fire blazing away and comfortable seating comprising of old un-matched tables and chairs. The pub was probably several rooms at one time, but it is now knocked into a large L shape wrapped around a single bar. Decor is typical country pub with dark burgundy walls and lots of wood and ornate mirrors. Toilets were excellent, offering Eau De Toilet and Lavender soap? We ate and chatted till 3pm, when we were politly thrown out as the pub closes for a couple of hours. Excellent venu, will use it again.
