Backstreet trad corner pub, sparsely populated late afternoon on a Sunday but a few scattered locals gave it a lived in feeling. There are five handpumps and on my visit four were occupied with a selection of Fullers beers the remainder was blank. A nice little pub although I found the cask choice a little predictable I made do with a Dark Star Lager on keg and enjoyed my half hour here.

Excellent traditional back street pub, with two distinct rooms and retaining traces of the old bottle & jug sales. Apart from some well-kept beers, mainly noted for its live music. The sort of pub you might well like to have as your local.

A very pleasant Victorian/Edwardian backstreet boozer, well described by Maldenman, below. Staff are very welcoming and the locals pleased to see visitors. They have introduced novelty vodkas to their range – Mars Bar and chilli are included as flavours. The pub still has a well deserved GBG entry and is definitely worth making the effort to find. I would certainly include in a crawl and will try to brave the vodkas next time.

This is a street corner local of the type becoming increasingly rare and therefore to my mind deserving of support where possible. This one is however easy to do so, a well run spick and span pub with a friendly welcome and well kept beer. The pub retains the traditional two room format, the lounge area being seemingly the main room where the service area is, a carpeted space with wood panelled walls, feature fireplace with old glass bottles and a brass golden eagle on top. The bare boarded public bar is dominated by a pool table although rather unusually probably due to space reasons, the dartboard is in the lounge. The bar gantry has brass objects, stone bottles and an old weigh scale on top. Fairly quiet as you might expect on my late Saturday afternoon visit, two blokes were playing pool while in the lounge another chap was nursing his pint and whisky chaser. The person I presumed to be the landlady was friendly and chatty and assisted very well indeed with advice concerning my mission to get some chips with directions to a decent chippy.
TVs in each half of the pub were set to BBC matchday scores with the screen set to L2 for updates of the Cheltenham v Pompey game.
Fullers beers, Pride, Seafarers, HSB, Red Fox plus guest Brains SA were on. Probably an ex-Gale's house then, the guest policy is welcome and a number of clips were on the bar wall.
Live music and a Thursday quiz advertised. A decent old fashioned back street boozer, well run and with good beer, currently listed in the 2013 GBG. Long may it prosper. The outside is being painted so is scaffolded at the moment so although in need of an update I didn't take a photo.

The Golden Eagle was a decent looking pub when we visited it,the pub is set in the back streets of Southsea on the corner of delemere road and fawcett road.
Once inside the pub had two seperate rooms,we had a drink in a smartish and comfortable lounge that was quite busy on our late Friday night visit.
The pub was a Gales tied house and there were two real ales on the bar,we had a drink of Gales best bitter which was a very nice drink, the other beer was Gales HSB.
We enjoyed our drink in this pub and were pleased to do a Gales tied house.
