A smartly laid out foodie type pub, There were four ales on upon my arrival, Greene King IPA , Old Speckled Hen Irving Type 42 and Irving Admiral, I had half an Admiral, It didnt taste right at all, with a slight vinegary twang not befiting a Stout or any other beer come to that. At this time I noticed both the Type 42 and OSH clips had been turned leaving just the GK IPA and odd tasting Admiral, I opted to leave the half father than exchange it. Something ,it seems is not right with the cellar management here.

A smartly done-up pub with potted plants and leather furnishings giving quite an upmarket, modern feel and more appropriate for mixed company than sports fans. The large L-shaped room extends round to an equally large floral patio at the rear. Four ales from the Greene King range were tagged on the pumps, but sadly due to a cellar cooling problem they were all off at time of visit - I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that this was just bad luck.

E TA left this review about The Bold Forester

A Victorian corner pub currently operated by GK and located on the busy Albert Road nightlife area. It has been knocked through to form a single large wood-floored bar, but the conversion hasn't really addressed the differing floor levels so doesn't work that well, and the use of Artex on the walls is just silly. There is a gaming machine and an overloud, intrusive jukebox. The staff are young and disingenuous. The food is mostly plastic, although the presence of a 'kids menu' may suggest that young goat is a local delicacy. Vertical drinking is discouraged, tables, chairs and benches prevail. The three ales on offer were GK IPA, GK IPA Gold and Ruddles Bitter, all served much too cold and given less prominence on the bar than Issy coffees. Fine as a local, but not a venue of choice for visitors.

Despite the somewhat imposing facade the interior is just one L shaped bar, serving Greene King kegs & lagers, nothing to excite real ale fans here

However it does serve food, and seemed reasonably busy during my visit on a Saturday lunch time

Pleasant, clean, tidy, polite staff. Nothing wrong with it really. If you fancy real ale go over the road to the Leopold, if you want a bite to eat, stay in the Bold Forester
