"It has been empty for nearly two years, but last weekend The Victory pub was packed out again for its grand reopening."

A basic corner pub which was previously in a bad state of decline, but has now been renovated and give a new lease of life by the current owner. Despite the refurbishment it still has a cheap 1970s works canteen feel to it, but without any food. A very large tv screen dominates one end of the single, long bar. There are gaming machines, a jukebox and a surprisingly manky carpet. Staff were friendly, if a little unsure of themselves, and the locals were totally indifferent to our presence. The wifi wasn't working. It is convenient for the Gosport ferry, but I don't see its becoming a regular stop as there is no real ale available.

Update April 2010 - Can confirm now re-opened, despite exterior looking a bit forlorn, the interior is fairly bright, clean & tidy. One long bar

Just two real ales on my lunchtime visit, Hunny Bunny & Irving's Frigate, I had Hunny Bunny which was my first taste of this brew, slipped down a treat.

No sign of food, and very much a "work in progress" as publican builds up trade, may suffer slightly from not being as close to Ferry, buses, and Dockyard as some others on the Hard, however it is worth popping in if in area

Update March 2010 - Reported as opened again & stocking Local Farlington brewer Irving ales http://www.irvingbrewers.co.uk/

Feb 2008, looks closed, whited out windows and general air of grime around it

There is a kebab house next door, which I guess is all the food available, no menu in pub

My advice would be to go round the corner into Queen Street & use The Invincible

The Victory is a stand alone pub that is quite close to Portsmouth harbour train station and the ferry terminals, making this pub very handy if you have just got off a ferry coming from the Isle of Wight.
Once inside the pub we went in a largish comfortable room that was carpeted.
When we visited this pub it was a Ushers tied house and there were two real ales on the bar we had a drink of Ushers Founders Ale and this was a decent drink the other beer was Ushers bitter.
This was a decent enough pub to have a few drinks in.
