Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Star & Garter

Perhaps still a bit of a local landmark, but now a very ordinary Greene King pub inside... Formulaic semi-modern furniture and decor in a partly opened-out 'L'-shaped layout. Just IPA and Abbot available from the three handpumps, and whilst dull the former was at least in good condition.

A large town pub built in the 1920s by Portsmouth United Breweries, it is currently run by Greene King as one of their Meet and Eat group. It is a welcoming town local, though not very exciting. The jukebox was rather dull, the TV was showing live sports, and there is a pool table. A small mammal that looked like a dog, only smaller, was going around saying hello to everyone, while the barman spoke to customers every ten minutes or so, presumably to ensure they hadn’t died. There’s no proper garden despite the pub’s being in its own grounds – just a small car park and a patio area. Two ales on, GK IPA and Abbott, both predictably uninteresting. OK to come in if passing, but but it isn’t somewhere I’d seek out.

A good solid suburban pub with some nice United Brewery etched glass windows at the front. The interior has suffered from an earlier refurbishment and some slightly naff glass doors separate the bars. The right hand side is more of an eating area, with pool and darts to the left. There is a patio area outside alongside the pavement. Cask Marque accredited but sadly the draught ales are limited to IPA and Abbot.

Clean and serviceable. Rather a disjointed layout and not a place to linger longer than need be.
