Harry Crumble says:

Pub has a request to be opened with comment - The building was recently refurbished, and recently reopened as "The Goat". It now trades as both a student pub (they're strict on that rule, it's only for students but they still call it a pub) and as a Pizza parlour.

Two reversed handpumps at 4.30pm on a Saturday. 30 second stay so not much to add. L shaped, there was a dartboard. No beer running up to Saturday evening shows a lack of care to me. Wadworths signage outside.

The name Royal is linked to the Royal Hospital which was opposite the pub. Hospital demolished in 1978 is now a Sainsbury's

PS, can confirm hospital name, my son was treated there

The Royal - I think the name is a tribute to the Royal Marines - is a decent town pub just outside the City centre. It's a Wadworths tied house with a basic, well-worn bar. The pub is lively and has a lived-in feel about it. The landlord is very Navy-oriented, although all are made to feel welcome here. I had a pint of Swordfish (another Naval allusion, this time to the Fleet Air Arm) which was very good indeed and very refreshing. Well worth popping in if passing and I would be happy to come back.

A somewhat forlorn pub, once it was the hub with cinema & hospital opposite, but redevelopment left it stranded next to a busy dual carriageway

I have been in twice, on both occasions it really was one man & his dog plus me

Shame really as they do try
