Claiming to be Fareham's most traditional pub, The Golden Lion is a Fullers (ex-Gales) house with a current GBG entry. Just off the high street, it is atmospheric, friendly and, on the whole, pretty pleasant. There are two bars; a large one on the left as you enter has basic tables and chairs plus room for vertical drinkers. The smaller room on the right is furnished with tables laid for diners. The décor is plain but adorned with bric-a-brac to give it a homely feel. The floor is carpeted, which sadly detracts from the building's historic value. An anachronistic brick fireplace fronts the original chimney stack in the front area of the main bar. There is a small tv screen tucked away discreetly in a corner, Fullers 'free' wifi and a pleasant stream of nostalgia from the jukebox. There is a small carpark at one side. The staff were very pleasant indeed, helpful and welcoming, although dogs are invited to stay outside. Three ales on, all Fullers. I had a pint of faux-HSB which was quite good. Food wasn't available for reasons which weren't very clear. I would be delighted to come back here anytime, and I would suggest this pub is an essential element of a town crawl.

Not knowing the history I suspect that this was a Gale's pub prior to Fuller's swallowing them all up.
Three beer pumps on the bar, but with two of them turned around (one was Gale's). Had a pint of Pride that was excellent, great condition, lovely and clear.
Lots of naval (submariner) pictures on the wall I'd guess due to the proximity of Gosport.
This pub is slightly away from the main shopping area but is worth a visit if you are visiting the town to sample a few pubs.
