As described below this Georgian village pub serves both its locals and visitors to the nearby castle. It’s currently owned by Enterprise, and it’s primarily food led, giving it the feel of a GK or ‘Spoons but slightly better. The food is average pub grub plus Sunday carvery and a fairly decent specials board. The reception wasn’t particularly warm, but then they were busy with families so I can’t moan too much. There is a single large, open plan bar with plenty of room for drinkers, diners and dogs. Ales on were Fullers Gales HSB, Seafarer’s, Doombar and Proper Job, plus there was a dry pump. No real cider was available. OK for refreshments when in the area and certainly a step up from the other pubs in Portchester.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Cormorant

Surprisingly large village pub handily located for the impressive Roman fort overlooking the Portchester Lake harbour. Opened out and extended at some stage to leave an overall 'L'-shaped arrangement of seating and dining areas. Quite simply furnished and decorated too. Five real ales on handpump: Doom Bar, Landlord, Seafarers, HSB and Long Man American pale ale (£4.20).

Ideal location next to Portchester Castle, has own car park which would be needed as the Castle area is hard to park in summer

Went in with group one afternoon, choice of beers, some draught available. I only had shandy as driving, so can't comment on them

Wide food choices, not tried but seem to be reasonable and varied

Outdoor seating area for summer time, smokers etc
