Pub has not changed much over the years, layout pretty much the same with dark tables and a general old and dark feeling to the pub but it has some positive things about it. The beer is good quality, and the staff seemed friendly and on the ball. It feels like a locals pub so they'll be a fair bit of noise and background laughter. There is no tv on for those interested, but the jukebox is available.

Many good ales to be drank here, old fashioned feel makes this a very good pub indeed.

Pub still looks the same but smelt strongly of paint so was probably getting a makeover. Appears to hold pool tournaments. Wychwood Hobgoblin was the best choice of ale available.

Still a bit of a smelly dump despite some improvements since 2008. Three ales Hobgoblin, Doom Bar and Pride available, all quite expensive and my Doom was perfunctory at best (the bad positioning of the pumps at the far end of the bar well-away from the entrance probably doesn’t help). No sign of real cider which is odd as I thought the kids would love a bit of Old Rosie. Clientele still young and fairly alternative. The place does have a bit of character, what with the sunken and wonky floor on the right hand side of the pub being almost at pavement level when you look out of the window (presumably this used to be an entirely separate room). Pool, darts and TV all available. In a bid to add a bit of character some hops have been strung around the bar and some wall tapestries attempt to give a slightly Ruritanian air. Toilets were a disgrace, I’ve seen better in Camden.

Overall there’s some character and a good atmosphere but scratch below that and it’s essentially an aimless fleapit. Could easily be Basingstoke’s best pub. But isn’t.

Situated opposite the cop shop, I was really quite surprised by how much I liked this place. Definitely a younger persons boozer (average age 21!) but with a really good atmosphere and no Chavs or Pikeys to be seen. My pint of Pride was good and was pleased to note a lot of the kids were drinking it too. Also a bit cheaper than surrounding outlets. The surprisingly large interior is quite appalling – it needs a lick of paint and quite a bit of basic maintenance. Otherwise a decent place to have a pint in Basingrad.

Bit of a strange one this, opposite the police station and council offices it looks like a good old fashioned boozer in a good solid interesting old building, decor traditional but a bit frayed. A couple of negative points, first the decent beer was sold out on my last visit, I've had reasonable Hobgoblin in here before, and then the overbearing carvery. Of course it's very much better than many pubs in Basingstoke but ..... Best summed up as - lots of potential but a shame about the lack of effort.
