A 17th Century coaching inn, one of Andover’s safer bets, and as described below. The barman was friendly and welcoming, the atmosphere was comfortable despite the awful background music and it wasn’t too busy, a great contrast to other nearby pubs. Only one ale on, Ringwood Razorback, which was in good condition and enjoyable. I’d be happy to come back here.

It's been over 3 years since I was last in Andover. But I did miss out a few pubs back then. So, my first stop on my return visit was this centrally located Marston's pub.

Marston's Pedigree & Ringwood Boondoggle. A guest, also from the Marston's stable, was Wychwood Hobgoblin. We decided to eat here and my Hunter's Chicken was nicely washed down with a Hobgoblin.

A few local, well-oiled were characters were in. One woman was quite proud of the fact that she hadn't seen another guy since a day when she'd smashed a glass over his head. Nice lady.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed my visit here. Marston's pubs are not so regimented post-Covid-19 and you can feel much more at home.

A pub within a hotel,it's all a bit smart and upmarket in here (by Andover standards). Unfortunately the beers do not match the grandeur,a straight choice between Hobgoblin and Ringwood Razorback, not much choice at all and not one I intend to repeat.

One of the few places in Andover that has any real class, this is a plush and surprisingly large pub/bar divided into various sections. The interior has an olde worlde feel to it but I suspect the majority of the wood beams are decorative rather than structural. The are plenty of tasteful nik-naks scattered around, including an old beer engine that has been mounted for display. Also watch out for the plethora of mirrors towards the rear that make you think you’re in Scaramanga’s Fun House. Three ales available – Hobgoblin, Ringwood Best and Pedigree, all sparklerised and cold which makes me think they aren’t too knowledgeable on that front. Condition of the beer ranged from good (Ringwood) through to “wish I’d got yours” (Pedigree). Aimed at the middle-class, there's posh coffee and food available.

If the ale management was better this would be up there with the Town Mill as Andover’s best. But it isn’t, so put it down as crawl fodder for now.

Interestingly this is indeed a Hotel as well as a pub. It certainly felt big inside, almost a little like an Ember Inn pub. Plenty of reasonable ale selections.
