Been on the "to visit" for a long time. Yet, I only managed a fleeting visit.

I liked what I saw.

Saturday night and I was very time constrained. Popped in to find gorgeous architecture. A multi roomed pub, crying out to be explored. Theatre included.

Alas, it was too busy to do it justice. I managed to get served very quickly with the only non dark real ale on - a Queens Legs - which I am assuming is a pun influence house pale.

It was very good.

To get seating, I had go to the beer garden, which wasnt ideal on a Nov evening. Still, I found a banksy type art work of John Cooper Clarke.

One to return to and do more justice, but looked very promising.

The lights of this pub were on inside and out. Whatpub, Facebook and Google all had a midday published opening time for our Friday visit. Yet at 3:45, all doors were still locked, leaving us little choice but to move on. With my visits to Salford occurring approximately every 12 years, I'll be surprised to see this trading if and when I manage to visit the area again.

Pretty much unchanged since my 2018 review but it may have had a lick of paint since. Four hand pulls for cask ale at the bar, all of which were on, including a house ale.

Curiously, vaping seems to be tolerated - unless the bar staff just didn't notice the clouds coming from one customer in the corner!

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Kings Arms

Accurately self-described as a "real ale pub and theatre", with a traditional main bar in the corner of this Grade II-listed wedge-shaped building, a more modern side room across the corridor and the performance space (presumably) upstairs. With one of the four handpumps being changed over as I arrived, the choice was The EPA from Cross Bay, Beartown's hazy single-hop Idaho 7 (£4.30) and the Green Green Grass of Home (with a hint of hemp extract, apparently) from Tudor.

The Kings Arms advertises itself as a pub, music venue, theatre and community hub. I didn’t venture upstairs, but I am aware that there is a bar with performance spaces for all the dramatics and self-expression. This is a hub for local groups that like to knit, natter, fish, walk, dance, sing and agitate… Sounds like a Pubs Galore crawl!
The pub itself is a traditional grade II listed red brick late 1970s pub with central lobby. This leads to a room with seating and a fireplace to the left, a thin bar to the right and an open plan seating area at the rear. A curved bar counter serves the front and rear seating areas and a beer shelf with bar stool runs along the right wall between these two areas. The bar supports a standard and premium keg range and I counted six hand pumps. Two were unused and the other four were drawing local non-mainstream ales. I didn’t spot any televisions, but there was some background music playing from the jukebox.
Out the back is a well-tended fence enclosed decked beer garden with picnic tables, some of which are covered. The doors open at 16:00 Monday to Thursday and noon Friday to Sunday. I found the service from both members of staff to be very friendly and I liked the atmosphere, this was the busiest pub in this part of Salford on Wednesday evening. I would enjoy a return visit.

A Historic pub opened in the 1870's, replacing an earlier King Arms built in 1807 on the opposite side of the street. We called in here on a Thursday afternoon, so the pub was fairly quiet, which gave a good opportunity to meet the new owner, a very friendly girl who bought the pub from Paul Heaton of the Housemartins/Beautiful South over a year ago. Delighted that we took a big interest in the pub, she allowed us to visit the recently restored Victorian Theatre at the top of the building. Other prominent features included the small lounge found on the left of the entrance and the main bar/lounge area and not forgetting the resident pub cat, Charlie.
Six ales on handpump, so we went for the House Beer brewed by Outstanding Brewery, another from Outstanding Brewery, Queen's Legs, and Beartown Crème Bearlee. All the beers were in excellent shape and the prices were reasonable.

Good pub, a couple of safe bets on at the pumps but also a couple of unusual ones we had not seen before, on a visit this Saturday. This is a traditional feeling boozer, through the front door you come into a corridor that has more of a hotel feel than a pub, there is a small room to your left which is often closed for a private function but was open on Saturday. Main bar then to the right where you can sit and admire the ornate plasterwork of the ceiling roses and cornicing. Unfortunately the traditional feel continues into the toilets which could really do with an overhaul (at least that is true of the gents, can't comment on the ladies). Definitely worth a look for the ale.

Just down the road from Salford Central station, the Kings Arms is an impressive looking Victorian Grade II listed pub with a grand depiction of the royal coat of arms on a pediment at the front of the building. You enter into a corridor with a fine decorative tile floor and rooms off to either side. The front left hand room is a fairly simple, compact lounge with fixed benches along the front and rear walls serving a few standard tables. The main bar is in the room to the right - a pretty sizable space with an angular bar to the front left. The room has a mix of exposed floorboards and quarry stone flooring whilst the bar has a nice dark wood counter and bar back under a small canopy, all decorated rather irreverently with various certificates, a toy bird, an inflatable giraffe and a Sponge Bob ornament. The right side of the room has fabulous looking curved corners with nice etched glass windows bearing the pub's name and a series of high shelves holding old cameras and a range of theatre themed items. At the far end of the bar there is a colourful stained glass window with an image of a King's Head and the high ceiling sports elaborate decorations in the form of some impressive roses. Elsewhere you can spot a TV screen (turned off on this occasion), a nice painting of the pub and, of all things, a framed collection of crisp packets. A second corridor at the rear of the pub leads out to a pleasant, partly covered patio garden. A good indie soundtrack played throughout my stay and a trip to the toilets was an odd experience as the walls in the gents have been papered with pages from a local newspaper dated February 2015, for no apparent reason. A good mix of customers were in on this visit, creating a lively environment and there was a great communal effort from half the crowd in trying to retrieve a balloon that had floated up to the very high ceiling after a child inadvertently let go of it.
The bar supports six hand pumps across two banks, but half were off on my Saturday afternoon visit, leaving a choice of Beartown Great Bear, Pennine Kinder Scout and Great Corby Red. Of those that had gone off, I noted another Pennine brew and Robinsons Old Tom. My pint of Kinder Scout was in good nick and the friendly bar staff were very apologetic and quick to rectify the problem when I realised they'd given me change for a fiver rather than the tenner I'd paid with.
I didn't really know what to expect from this place, but thought it was a bit of an all rounder, with good beer, a lively atmosphere and a good customer mix, all in an attractive old building. This is a good place to stop off for a beer before jumping on a train and is a solid addition to any crawl around central Salford.

A really good pub. 6 cask ales on. A wall with a lot of "Do not disturb" pictures is adjacent to the bar. Bizarrely it had a signed Sheffield Utd shirt signed by Tony Currie. If Paul Heaton of The Housemartins still owns it I can see why. I liked this pub.

We called in loads of time since my last review, but I hadn't got around to updating my review. The pub is now owned by Paul Heaton of Beautiful South fame. It was very busy on our Saturday, early evening visit. My pint of First Chop Hop was in excellent condition and my fellow crawlers all said that their beer was top notch as well. It's a very good pub.

Fine pub on the Salford real ale trail. We've been coming in here every couple of months for years now whenever we're in Salford. Good range of real ales usually involving Phoenix, all well kept, although they had a reduced selection on Saturday as they'd just had a busy couple of hours and three pumps were being changed. Always a friendly atmosphere. Attracts a new breed of regulars from the posh flats around it now as well as the established crowd which makes for a good mix of people. Has a separate room behind the bar and another one upstairs that hosts live music. Also has a stained glass window with a picture of.... yes you've guessed it, a Kings Head rather than his arms! Don't miss it when doing the Crescent/New Oxford crawl.
