Very Nearly Perfect. 02/04/11 Party of 17 (yes seventeen). Not pre-booked 5.30pm Saturday
After a walk in the area our group arrived at this establishment and after checking they could accommodate us made our way in. Menu selection was varied and prices ranged from £8 up to nearly £20 for main meals and deserts were close to £5 each. Because we were such a large group we expected a lengthy delay in the production of food and we did endure this. After about 45 minutes wait the meals were served and in the majority of cases every thing was perfect. However, one of our party had been served the wrong potatoes and vegetables with their meal and when they pointed this out to the waitress were rather rudely told "that's what you ordered" and she turned and left. It subsequently transpired that the person who had taken the order had got it wrong but no apology came from the waitress and this is why the score is marked down (so imagine how good it would have been without this episode!!). However, the portions were a very good size, the meals were cooked very well and everybody said they enjoyed their meals. The deserts were rather short on a varied selection but those that did have deserts thoroughly enjoyed them. All in all, I think they coped admirably with such a large party on no notice, but I'm afraid the rudeness of one waitress spoiled the atmosphere and experience.

The Royal George is a family-run pub and restaurant, and caters for everyone's tastes and budgets. There is a Light Lunchtime Menu available in the bar area, available Monday to Friday from 12 noon until 5pm. There is a Senior Citizens menu, with 2-course and 3-course meal deals available. The daily menu caters for everone's needs, with sandwiches/baguettes or a selection of salads available, or for a more hearty meal, there are steaks, sizzlers or more traditional favourites. There is also a Specials Board, and a Childrens Menu is available too. The Royal George is also home to the Off The Rails Comedy Club, which occurs on the last Sunday of every month. Comedians such as John Bishop, Sarah Millican, Justin Moorhouse, Alan Carr, Jason Manford and Mick Ferry have all appeared there! Other events The Royal George hosts include live bands, on various dates throughout the year, charity Race Nights, and they have also held a Car Boot Sale and a Reverse Bungee on the car park! The Royal George has a good selection of Cask Ales and spirits, there is a Function Room available for hire for all occasions, the Beer Garden can be found at the rear of the pub, and there is ample parking on offer. Set on a main junction in the Saddleworth countryside, the Royal George is ideally located for walkers, families, young people, old people, and they allow dogs in too (if they are on leads).
