Visited yesterday afternoon. I have been a couple of times before but the most recent was two years ago. As has been noted, it seems to have had a fairly recent refurbishment and has been modernised inside, but retains a cosy friendly atmosphere.

At the bar are five hand pulls though three of these were off yesterday, leaving Millstone Tiger Rut and Donkeystone Cotton Clouds to choose from. The Tiger Rut was pleasant and priced at £1.70 for half a pint.

The front two rooms were laid out for dining and the room to the left retains its fireplace, which was in use yesterday and gave the pub a nice wood burning smell. There is a small beer garden in front of the pub and a car park to the rear. Wi-Fi is available and the code is above the bar.

It's a nice little pub, and very handy if you have been walking round Dovestone Reservoir.

Real Ale Ray left this review about The Clarence

A large stand alone pub, with the bus stop only across the road, coming from the railway station. The interior of this pub consisted of two decent sized rooms either side of the front entrance, along with a back room and bar. The pub looked as though it had recently been refurbished, now with a modern and contemporary new look. The two front rooms had brown leatherette banquette seating and the décor was mushroom coloured painted walls and petrol blue painted woodwork. The original cornice work was left in white and a fireplace in one of the lounges did reserve some character. Five pumps with two in use, so we went for the Greenfield Brewery Silver Oak which was decent and only £3.10 a pint. The staff were all very pleasant and the pub had a nice relaxing atmosphere to it. The pub also serves very good homecooked food, which brought the locals in for a bite to eat. Their speciality is Raggy Pudding which originates from Oldham.
