Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Royal Hop Pole (JD Wetherspoon)

Fine old inn, modernised and extended by Wetherspoon, but the interior retains a good deal of character. Separate rooms can be found on each side of the porticoed entrance, the bar counter centre left with a grand fireplace in the seating area opposite, and more tables further back until you reach the beer garden door. Doubled-up clips for Ruddles, Doom Bar and Abbot on one bank of six handpumps, but a much more appealing selection of Acorn Brewer's Gold, She Sells Sea Shells from Gadds, Loch Lomond Bonnie & Blonde, Bonville Pale and Scallywag from Hop Union, and North Cotswold's Cotswold Best could be found on the other.

Decent looking spoons which was absolutely packed when I called. We were planning to a quick lunch here but every table was occupied (mainly by people drinking coffee!) so we moved on after a quick drink. I will call again when it is quieter!

a busy upmarket Spoons with hotel attached. couldn't be bothered waiting on the crowd of food seekers at the bar so I moved on pretty swiftly. it did have a decent selection of beer if that's all you care about but it was chaotic and food dominated today.

Cleaner than average Spoons and the £2.18 Hook Norton Flagship was probably the best pint found in the town.

More one armed bandits than punters.

I left my other half in another pub so I could come and see this 2018 Good Beer Guide JDW bar, and found it to be a very popular rather noisy bar. Impressed finding a clean table easily enough given it was so full, and my beer choice of Gloucester Aussie Pale was one of the best of the day.

This rambling old building is one of the ever increasing number of hotels included in the JDW empire. Inside it retains much of the original structure with a couple of dining rooms passed on the way to the bar at the rear of the building. The whole place has wooden beams and wood panelling There is a pleasant looking patio and garden behind the bar area although not much use on a dank December Tuesday.
The bar has a set of six and a set of four hand pumps. The four have the JDW Trio Of Doom and a doubled up Great Western Old Higby. The six had Banks's Barley Brown Tumble Off, Prescott Hill Climb, Bespoke Over a Barrel, Pershore Summertime Ale, Wharfebank Angel Delight and the Old Higby. I went for the Bespoke beer (£2.60) which was excellent. The standard guest ale price here is £2.45 but the food clubs are on the expensive side.
I thought this was a top Spoons and is GBG 2017 listed.

By JDW standards this is a sympathetic refurbishment of one of Tewkesbury's many historic buildings. It is an ancient coaching inn with much of the original layout still discernible: the archway and yard have long been roofed over and incorporated into the main building but the rooms either side facing the street retain much of the atmosphere. To the left is a rather plush lounge, to the right an more atmospheric area complete with open fire, oak beams and wood panelling. Further back it degenerates into standard issue JDW - this is where the bar is and the standard issue JDW clientele are. It remains a hotel, and we did stay. The rooms could do with a bit more attention to detail considering the inflated price charged due to a certain race meeting down the road. And like all JDW hotels your excellent breakfast is accompanied by the scowls of those regulars who clearly need to take their breakfast in liquid form.

At the end of the day it OK. We'll certainly stay there again next time we go racing. A different management would make better use of the space, with better defined reataurant and residents' areas, but as JDW's go it at the top end of their game.
