Quite a small bar with an impressive carved bar front. Additional bars in function spaces during the racing festival with live music.

A hotel with a Brasserie Blanc bolt-on and a functioning bar beforehand. No real ale as mentioned below - Meantime Pale Ale on keg at £2.45 a half was the closest, with BrewDog IPA and Sierra Nevada bottles the second best you could get to for something with any flavour. Busy with the well-heeled on a Friday evening there was even a guy on the door, so not really a chance to admire any architectural aspects: more of neck and go.

Situated at the rear of the impressive hotel lobby,The Gold Cup bar is worth a squint for it's impressive carved oak square bar and the photos on the walls of different aspects of the famous race. The hotel is the preserve of the Irish during the festival, and this bar is then very busy, at other time it is a calm oasis. The barman was chatty and you even get free nuts with two halves of Guiness (£3.90).It's all very classy yet there is no real ale.

The Queen's is as grand as it gets in Cheltenham and the bar does it justice, a very old fashioned wood panelled affair which comes to life during race meetings, when half of Ireland seems to be in residence. Although I guess few would factor it in when considering a tour of the town's hostelries it is well worth a look if you fancy a quite lunchtime pint or maybe a civilised aperitif. No real ale.
