Late in 2016 the pub was refurbished, with a relaunch party on 7th October 2016. It is now called The Top Oak, which it has been known as for many years. This was to distinguish it from the Royal Oak in Havering-atte-Bower, that is known as the Bottom Oak. They were both Whitbread pubs.

We have been to this pub three times in the past month, twice for food and once just for a quick drink. I'm so delighted to have discover this place. The food is magnificant, being quite a foodie who dines out a lot and is hard to please that is saying something. On the last visit I had the roast belly of pork with stuffing and all the trimmings and it was amazing. The pork was so tender and just fell apart and the crackling was to die for. Perfect roast potatoes and real gravy and the homemade yorkshire puddings were a real treat. A must for your Sunday roast. Fabulous!

We have been to this pub twice in the last four weeks, first on a table of 14 and the next time just a table of 4. Both times staff were extremely good, restaurant area was modern, large and comfortable, bar area very traditional.
Menu was extensive and inviting, on my second visit I had pie and mash with liquor and it was gorgeous, took me back! Everyone at the table on both occasions were very complimentary about the food, and I have no complaints whatsoever. Service was at just the right pace for us.
The owners of the pub, Pete and Nicole are great hosts and very welcoming.
We are eating there again in early October with a group of 10 where there will be entertainment, and we are very much looking forward to it. Well done.

I went to the Royal Oak yesterday for Sunday Dinner, there were 8 of us and we were all really really pleased with the service and the quality of the food! I have also been here during the week for amazing sea food!I dont usually pay any attention to these sites but i had to come on here to let you all know how nice this pub is! Everyone was really freindly and the service was great and was a really good atmosphere, ill definatly be going back and it is definatly somewhere i would recommend for a lovely sunday roast and drink in the bar afterwards! Also it had a play area in the garden which was great to keep the kids entertained whilst we had a drink! Glad to hear they are also doing a refurb and i am looking forward to returning soon

3 of our 4 roast meals were reasonable, but the 4th was an inedieble lump of rock solid 'pork'. Two of our table ordered this, mine arrived on time but couldn't be cut with a knife and the other was moist but arrived ten minutes later than everyone elses meal. I have never returned a meal but simply couldn't chew this one so politely asked if it could be exchanged for a fresh one. It was returned back to me with a message from the chef saying 'that's the way it comes'. Added to this, they served us the wrong drinks, gave us someone else's bill, never bought the coffee that was ordered and charged us for the meat that was returned (again) to the kitchen. Terrible service and inconsistent food quality - we won't be going back.
