The Forresters Arms is a good looking traditional village pub in the small village of High Ongar just off the A414 Harlow to Chelmsford Road.
A few years ago the village was served by three pubs. But now The Red Lion has become an Indian restaurant and The Sanuk is a Thai restaurant leaving the Forresters Arms as the only pub in the village..
You enter into the carpeted main bar, which has original blackened oak beams throughout and a large open fireplace taking centre stage. Then there is a separate section to the right which at one time was probably a separate room but is now knocked through to make a dining area, although what was presumably the original wall beams remain.
The pub offers a sensibly priced lunchtime and evening food menu , but we did not try this as we were only here for a pre wedding beer before moving up to the large church up the road.
And in this respect the bar supports four real ale pumps alongside the usual standard lager and Guinness offerings and although these were largely dispensing standard offerings in the shape of GK IPA and Abbott and Sheperd Neame Spitfire there was a very passable Brentwood Best.
Nice little village pub and certainly wouldn’t have an issue if I lived in the village and it was my local.
