Brilliant live music! Came over to watch a new duo who were advertised on the silver oyster website, got to say have not see a couple of girls sing this well together in years, this pub is on an estate just off the main road to Mersea Island (some good pubs there too!) and you can get a bus to it from the town center (if you fancy a drink and do not want to pay for a colchester taxi!) in about 10 minutes.
There was a few people already there and we had a few drinks before the live music started (someone was already dancing so they had already had a few and were enjoying it!) around 9pm, the carlsberg was a £1 cheaper than my local, local so that was a real bonus :-)
Songs were great, lots of choice and different years, this is a great local pub and the staff were friendly and happy towards us both, bearing in mind we had never been in the pub, this is something other pubs should adopt!
We would have liked a few bar nibbles but then one of the regulars said that there was a big kiddies christmas do with santa on the saturday (sounded like fun with the presents!) and the food would be out sat afternoon to eat!
All in all a really good night, we will definitely come back again to see the duo, sorry their name slips my mind but they are well worth the trip locally to see perform, someone else said that this is their regular live music venue as its their first gig live together, so I think they will get a bit of a following at the pub when they sing again maybe.
I give this pub 9/10 for the effort and actually putting on live music that is worth hearing!

Thought that pubs like this were a thing of the past! Went in the silver oyster pub on Friday, just to have a look at the place and have a quick pint. Last time I went in (about 9 years ago) you would not have wanted to stay more than 1 min! This time was very different, the barstaff served me very quickly (tall leggy dark haired girl, very pretty which helps in a pub!) and my bitter was as it should be. I spoke to a couple of people who had come in to see a singer that was on a poster in the chippy. I am not too keen on live music but this again was very different, could only stop to listen to about 5 songs and she was one hell of a singer!!! Will come back with the missus now I know it is so welcoming, there is not much to do on the estate and apart from my carpentry job and the long hours worked to get by, the silver oyster, ticked a few of my boxes! The only thing that would make it more inviting is maybe to get rid of the old net curtains and have some sort of blinds so that you can actually see into the pub a little, so if you were driving past you could see that it is still open. What was funny is got home after going to shop to get some bread and their was a little leaflet about the live singer on the doormat!!! So at lease they are trying to get business, which is a lot compared to some Colchester pubs. It said live music, karaoke were on every weekend and an open mike night was coming soon, so think its all good and if the singer comes back we will definitely come and watch her (very pretty!) live.
