Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Anchor

Quite an elongated, low, two-storey building of some age (as indicated by the ceiling height within). Refurbished in a semi-traditional style with just the perspex Covid-19 screens protecting the counters in the bar and separate dining area really hinting at modernity. Also has a row-and-a-half of wooden picnic tables along the frontage. With two of four handpumps in use, I found Greene King IPA and Old Speckled Hen (£3.95) being served.

Terrible disappointment.

After a lovely long walk around the beautiful Stratford St Mary and by the river, we were looking forward to dinner on a pleasant Tuesday night.

The other pub was only serving lunchtime food (the Swan closed up), and when I walked into the Anchor, the shifty looking manager behind the bar rudely told me to 'hang on a minute, let me get the key in the door!' And when I asked if we could get food (it was 7pm, just opening), I was abruptly told 'just about, in a minute, give me a chance!' Followed by a roll of the miserable eyes, then walking away leaving me standing in the middle of the room. I turned around and walked out. We had a lovely dinner in the much more impressive Ardleigh Crown.

I don't recommend anyone to go in the Anchor. Many pubs are tragically closing, and with an experience like this, sometimes it's not a surprise. Support decent pubs, go in the more welcoming Black Horse for a decent pint and lunch.
