Following a petition, the Council has listed the pub as a community asset. This means that if it is put on the open market, the community is given six months to raise the money to buy it.

The Tower Arms pub is located in the pleasant village of South Weald, close to the main car parks for the Weald Country Park open space. The building dates from 1701 and still retains some of the original features internally.
It is food led and most of the space is taken up with a small restaurant room to the front and a large conservatory bolted on the back. However it retains a smallish painted wood panelled bar area mentioned below. This supported two real ale pumps for my visit, one being Caledonian Sunseaker, which was meant to be the June monthly Caledonian beer. But I was offered a taster and it was a well-kept pint.
The pub has a large car park to the side and a very pleasant multi area garden to the back, and as Phil eludes to below this place does attract ‘Essex man made good’ on a warm summers day and I think I was one of the very few non- 4 by 4’s in the car park. But for four miles I could have been born in Essex, so I am very tolerant of designer T shirt with gold chain man and his leopard print dress with spray tan other half in tow, which is a good thing, because there was a lot of them out on this Sunday lunchtime.
For the record this place also functions as a B&B Hotel with six rooms available above the pub.

I have visited this pub occasionally for many years and though I would visit it again as their website said it had been refurbished. The layout is still the same, and it has had a typical corporate makeover. The restaurant area at the front used to be wood panelled which has sadly been removed, and now feels cold and unwelcoming. The wood panelling has not been removed from the bar area, but it has been painted over with grey eggshell. There is a new conservatory in the same place as the old one, and the garden at the back has new paved areas and two televisions in protective covers. There is a selection of real ales, and the same high prices. The same clientele appear to still be there, and it is a shame their language is not as up market as the cars they arrive in. Worth a visit for a change, but I would not use it on a regular basis.

We went to the Pub for my 30th There were 12 of us in total the staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. We sat in the conservatory over looking the gardens for our meal the food was lovely and the bill was extremely reasonable. Could not fault the pub or it's staff in any way. The gardens are lovely as well Great pub if you have a family food choices for all tastes. We will be going back to The tower arms on a regular basis delighted we have found it well worth a visit they have barbes through the summer as well. Get your self down there Lovely boozer.
