Steve C left this review about The Heron

The Heron was previously called the Pevensey Castle Hotel and apparently wasn’t very highly rated by the locals, but I think that it must be much improved as I really liked it. It is a U shaped pub with the bar area in the centre by the entrance and around to the left are some tables and sofas along with a log fire and the toilets. The more interesting right hand side has a dartboard and a plasma screen along with a jukebox and another dartboard at the rear next to the exit to the ‘family garden’ that consists of some café style seating on a paved area that leads to some picnic tables on the lawn. There are also a few tables and chairs under a shelter that also houses a BBQ for sunnier times. There are three hand pumps located on the bar, but two of these were unused leaving only Harveys Best, but I enjoyed the Guinness and other standard draught products were also available. Pub food is served and the mains come in at around the £7 mark. This pub is not open all day and the times stated on the door were 16:00 until 23:00 Monday through to Thursday, midday until 1am on Friday, midday until 23:00 on Saturday and Midday until 22:30 on Sunday.

I found the barmaid to be very friendly, but the locals seemed a little insular and three young men that walked in whilst I was throwing a few darts would not play with me and sat in their chairs fiddling with their arrows until I was leaving when they then got up and started playing. You wouldn’t catch that sort of behaviour down my local in North London, maybe it is small town mentality that I have to get used to down here on the South Coast – or maybe I’m just a jerk that nobody likes!

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Heron

Quite a nice looking pub, located about halfway between Pevensey Castle and the station. The interior has been partially opened out into a U-shaped bar and refurbished fairly recently by the look of things. Friendly staff and customers, and amenities include a beer garden and regular live music. Only two handpumps, but the Harveys (£2.95) was good quality.

I understand that "The Heron" is now run by Peta & Ann-Maire. That must now make it a great place for a pint with great views. Trouble is, I now live over a 170 miles away!! ;-)

Newly taken over and given new spirit and comfort. Becoming very popular among the local glitterati. Handy for the station & buses.
