Blue Scrumpy left this review about The March Hare

Easily the best of 10 Bedfordshire pubs we visited for the first time yesterday, the March Hare is a true village local that is wet-led.

Parking is on the street only. You enter into a sub-divided room with a wall dividing two access points to the bar. With all other customers congregated on stools around the bar on the near side, we headed to the far section for service. However, pumpclips are split between the two sections.

4 real ales were on handpull - Digfield Fool's Nook, Fuller's London Pride, Rudgate Evil Elf & Pennine Jingle Bell Rock. We also found a 5th pumpclip nestling in a corner for Nene Valley Russian Imperial Stout. At 11.5%, they were pouring thirds of that direct from a cask in the cellar. On enquiry, we also found that they generally stock 3 real ciders from the local Apple Cottage producer. The barmaid/landlady believed that they had a couple on. So, we ordered one of each. She returned to say that only the aptly named Gandhi's Flip Flop was on. I stuck with my order, only for her to return again to inform us that it was actually off. On the plus side, they would now be ordering 3 more ciders from Apple Cottage, which wasn't much use for me on my New Year's Day visit! So, Russian Imperial Stout it had to be!

This is clearly a popular pub amongst the local community and also with the local CAMRA branch. Beer festivals are held, with a dark beer festival scheduled for later this month. Despite the cider shortage, I'd happily return here if ever in the area. In fairness, it's not that much of a detour off the A1, if you ever use that road.

This pub that features in the 2019 Good Beer Guide really is a true community local, and has a shop. It is a focal point for village activities, and various clubs meet up there. They have a couple of mini beer festivals and a cider festival. 4 real ales and a keg line available yesterday, and our Nene Valley was very good.
