I’ve revisited the Cavalier Inn a couple of times since my first visit back in January 2009 and found it to be much the same as my previous review reports. That is until my most recent visit on Sat 11th August during the yearly Airbourne air show. The name had been removed and the exterior painted burgundy. The kitchen serving area to the left of the entrance has been removed and replaced by a small stage and the massive fish in the tank that was far too small for its size has vanished. I asked the barmaid about its whereabouts and she said that she didn’t know, but people had been asking her about the fish all day. The two pool tables that are located up some steps at the rear of the pub either side of the bar remain. A picture of a cavalier stills remains on the wall so I think that the name of the pub will remain the same.
As far as I could tell the real ale has been removed from this pub as I only spotted standard draught. The plinth that one of the hand pumps sits on was being used to support a glass full of straws.
After some investigation I found out that this pub was taken over a month before my visit and live music is now held here.

I think that this place is a little more welcoming to non-locals than it was, but the loss of the ale is a real blow. When I’m next in this area I will give it another visit when there aren’t the large crowds that the air show brings.

A strange kind of pub but during a recent visit to Eastbourne I found this pub to have a very
relaxed feel about it, I think it's more of a regulars place then for tourist's, was amazed at
the size of the fish in his tank in the corner.

March 2011. Great pub. Handy for seafront. Dog friendly. Excellent beers.

This is a strange disjointed pub with a couple of pool tables at the back and a small kitchen area at the front with the dining tables set out with blue and white checked seafront table cloths. On my first visit which was in the evening I found the staff to be suspicious of a non local and the general vibe to be fairly unwelcoming. In contrast during an afternoon visit I found the Governor to be extremely hospitable.

I spotted Brakspear, which was good, and Courage Best alongside some standard lagers.

This place is on my Eastbourne radar for another return visit.
